Eleanor Notah

TOHATCHI, N.M. – Funeral services for Eleanor Notah, 85, of Tohatchi, New Mexico, will be held today, July 24, at 9 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tohatchi, with Father Max Biltz officiating. Burial will follow at the Tohatchi community cemetery.

Eleanor Notah, Sept. 9, 1939 – July 20, 2025

Eleanor was born Sept. 9, 1939, in Tohatchi, into the Tł’ógí (Weaver-Zia Clan), born for Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan). She passed away July 20, 2025, in Tohatchi.

As a proud self-employed business owner, Eleanor’s work gave her the opportunity to travel to all 50 states and across Europe – something she treasured deeply. She raised cattle in Tohatchi with her children on the family ranch. Through it all, her heart remained rooted in her home community of Tohatchi. She loved purple, which reflected her quiet strength, wisdom, and royal spirit.

Eleanor is survived by her sons, Nathan Notah, Larson Notah, Leonard Notah Jr., and Justin Notah; daughters, Denise Oldham, Geri Notah and Danielle Notah; sister, Betty Sanchez; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Notah Sr.; daughter, Francilia Notah; parents, Esitty Begay and Donahasbah Begay; sister, Bessie Begay; brother, Kee Yazzie Begay; and grandson, Lane Notah.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Rollie Mortuary oversaw arrangements.


Donna M. Christensen

GALLUP – A Celebration of Life for Donna M. Christensen will be held Saturday, July 26, at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall (212 W. Wilson Ave.) from 12-3:30 p.m.

Donna M. Christensen, Sept. 7, 1941 – April 22, 2025

Donna was born Sept. 7, 1941, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for English. Her maternal grandfather is Tótsohnii (Big Water), and paternal grandfather is Danish. She passed away April 22, 2025.

Donna grew up in Church Rock, New Mexico, and graduated from Gallup High School in 1959. In 1981, she earned a law degree from the University of New Mexico, with a focus on water and land rights.

In 1991, Donna was ultimately appointed Navajo Nation attorney general during the Peterson Zah administration.


Lenora Sam

GALLUP – Funeral services for Lenora Sam, 51, of Brimhall, New Mexico, were held July 21 at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup, with Pastor Matthew Haltsoi officiating. Interment followed in Crownpoint.

Lenora was born Feb. 18, 1974, in Crownpoint, into the Haltsooí (Meadow People Clan), born for Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). She passed away July 12, 2025, in Farmington.

Lenora graduated from Crownpoint High School and received an associate degree in business from Navajo Technical University. She worked at Navajo Tribal Utility Authority for four years and at Navajo Technical University as an administrative assistant for 14 years.

Lenora is survived by her sons, Shaneford Kady, Sherdan Kady, Gilford Kady, Gifford Kady Jr., and Clifford Kady; parents, Fayerena and Harrison Sam; brother, Tyolin Sam; and sisters, Trina Sam and Treva Sam.

Lenora is preceded in death by her sister, Falisha Sam; son, Shaford Kady; and grandparents, Nesie and Ross Begay, and Alice and Billy Sam.

Pallbearers were Shaneford Kady, Sherdan Kady, Gilford Kady, Gifford Kady Jr., Clifford Kady, and Gifford Kady Sr.

Honorary pallbearers were Tia Charley, Traiden Yazzie, TKay Ashley, Harrison Sam, Emerson Sam, and Tyolin Sam.

Rollie Mortuary oversaw arrangements.
