Margaret Notah

GALLUP — Funeral services for Margaret Notah, 49, of Gallup, will be held Saturday, July 6, at 10 a.m., at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup, with Pastor Ron Yazzie officiating. Burial will follow in Tsayatoh, New Mexico.

Margaret Notah, March 19, 1975 – June 6, 2024

Margaret was born March 19, 1975, in Gallup, into the Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Naakaii dine’é (Mexican Clan). She passed away June 6, 2024, in Albuquerque.

Margaret graduated from Gallup High School in 1994 and held various jobs throughout the years. She enjoyed drawing and listening to heavy metal music.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Samantha Billy, Danielle Saunders and Megan Saunders; parents, Joann and Albert Jim; brother, Anthony Jim; sister, Virginia Notah; and two grandchildren.

Margaret is preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Grace Francisco; grandmother, Helen Lee; uncle, Paul Notah Sr.; aunt, Geneva Harrison; and cousin, Arlendria Notah.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Jim, Chad Harrison, Paul Notah Jr., Lorenzo Notah, Damian Aragon, and Cody Yazzie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Notah, Justin Dedman, Albert Jim, George Aragon, and Randy Amos.

Rollie Mortuary oversaw arrangements.

Bennie P. Hoisington

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Bennie Peterson Hoisington, 71, of Fort Defiance, will be held Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Defiance, with Father Blane Grein officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Defiance.

Bennie Peterson Hoisington, April 26, 1953 – June 28, 2024

Bennie was born April 26, 1953, in Crownpoint, into the Tsenabahiłnii (Sleep Rock People Clan), born for Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). His nálí is Honágháahnii (One-walks-around); cheii is ‘Áshįįhí (Salt People). He passed away June 28, 2024, in Fort Defiance.

Bennie graduated from Grants High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from New Mexico State University. He worked for Navajo Housing Authority in Fort Defiance, Cabinet Southwest in Church Rock, New Mexico, Diné Power Authority in Window Rock, and consulting work with the Navajo Nation and NTUA.

Bennie enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, being a baseball coach, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bennie is survived by his wife, LaVonne Hoisington; sons, Todd Hoisington, Britt Hoisington and Bo Hoisington; daughters, Kimberlee Hoisington and Leah Hoisington; brothers, Kenneth Peterson, Floyd Largo, Philbert Peterson, and Stanford Peterson; sisters, Loretta Begay, Lenora Francisco, Leona Largo, Patsy P. Jimmie, Phyllis Peterson, Patricia Peterson, Roxann Whitehair, and Ernestine Peterson; and 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bennie is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Chino III; sisters, Nyron Byrd and Nyan Hoisington; brothers, Art Peterson, Jimmie Largo Jr. and Patrick Peterson; maternal grandparents, Paddy Martinez and Nina M. Largo; paternal grandparents, Herman and Rose Peterson; adopted parents, Edward and Violetta Hoisington; and biological parents, Phillip Peterson and Nina M. Largo.

Pallbearers will be Todd Hoisington, Britt Hoisington, Bo Hoisington, Makai Shorthair, Reuben Sitai’ai, and Kaiden Sitai’ai.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Peterson, Floyd Largo, Maddux Hoisington, Kasom Hoisington, Francis Wauneka, Kyle Peterson, Irvin Wauneka Jr., Lionel Dawes, Marc Wauneka, and Michael Hickson.

A reception will take place at the Fort Defiance Chapter House following services.

Joanne B. Peshlakai

ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. — Graveside service for Joanne Beverly Peshlakai, 66, of St. Michaels, Arizona, will be held Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m.

Joanne was born April 7, 1958, in Fort Defiance, into the Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan). She passed away June 28, 2024, in Albuquerque.

Joanne attended Window Rock High School and the University of New Mexico. She worked as an operator for Navajo Communications, Arizona Native Democrat, Voters Coalition, and Northeast Registrar.

Joanne enjoyed farming, livestock, cooking, baking, Avon, Tupperware, and family gatherings.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Joseph Peshlakai; daughter, Guyanna Lynn Jim; and two grandchildren.

Joanne is preceded in death by her son, Jacoby Honahni; mother, Betty John; father, Billy John; and brother, Thompson John.

A reception will take place at Joseph Peshlakai’s residence following service.
