HOLBROOK, Ariz. — Funeral services for Marcus James, 56, of Holbrook, Arizona, will be held Friday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Holbrook. Burial will follow at the Holbrook cemetery.

Marcus passed away May 6, 2018. He was a minister at Faith Assembly of God Church in Holbrook, the Co-op Assembly of God in LaVeen, Arizona, and The Living Word Assembly of God in Carson, New Mexico.

Marcus is survived by his wife, Tina M. James; daughter, Martina and son-in-law Abel Martinez; and grandson, Marcus Fenix Martinez. Marcus is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Leo James. Condolences can be sent to www.greersmortuary.com.

Gorman Yazzie

Gorman Yazzie

GALLUP — Funeral services for Gorman Yazzie, 60, of Asaayi, New Mexico, will be held today, May 10, at 10 a.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel in Gallup, with Father Pio O’Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Gorman was born April 30, 1958, in Fort Defiance, into the Tsénjíkiní (Honey Combed Rock People Clan), born for Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan). He died May 6, 2018, in Gallup.

Gorman graduated from Fort Wingate High School in May of 1977. He participated in wrestling (All State Class AAA) and football (Defensive End All State). He was named Senior of the Month and earned a four-year scholarship to Northern Arizona University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in forest management in 1982 and a master’s degree in forestry in 1993.

Gorman was a Helitech certified firefighter and was employed with BIA Fort Apache in Whiteriver, Arizona, Navajo Nation Forestry Department, Navajo AML, EPA, and Ecosystem Management with NAU, Utah State University and Colorado State. Gorman was an experienced mountain climber, recently climbing Mount Teton. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being a firefighter.

Gorman is survived by his wife, Jolene J. Yazzie; sons, Jeb Gould, Kevin Yazzie, and Todd Yazzie; stepson, Ryan Manygoats; stepdaughters, Rachel Lavea and Tricia Manygoats; brothers, Herman Yazzie, Hershman Yazzie, and Freeland Yazzie; sisters, LeNora Y. Fulton and Christine Cazares; and 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gorman is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Fannie Barney-Yazzie, and Sherman Yazzie; and grandparents, Hataali Anagholi (Laughing Medicineman) and Astaa (Lady) Mose.

Pallbearers will be Tali Lavea, Mataio Lavea, Leonard H. Jones, Leon H. Jones, Rocco Addington, and Ryan Manygoats. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Yazzie, Hershman Yazzie, Jeb Gould, Kevin Yazzie, Todd Yazzie, and Howard Leonard.

A reception will take place at the Lupton Chapter House at 1 p.m. today. Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Emmajean Tsosie H. Begaye

TSAILE, Ariz. — Funeral services for Emmajean Tsosie H. Begaye, 73, of Lukachukai, Arizona, will be held today, May 10, at 10 a.m. at the LDS Church in Tsaile, Arizona, with Ralph Begay officiating. Burial will follow in Lukachukai.

Emmajean, a former teacher, was born Sept. 29, 1945, in Chinle, into the Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan), born for Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan). She died May 7, 2018, in Lukachukai.

Emmajean is survived by her sons, Franklin S. Begaye and Jackie Ray Hall; daughters, Dorothy M. Claw and Coretta Sigrid Hall; brothers, Isidore T. Begaye, Ralph T. Begay, and Marcellus S. Begaye; sisters, Angela A. Sandoval, Ellouise Thompson, LaVerne T. Begaye, and Gladeeh Begaye; grandparents, John D. Davis, Lucy Pete, and Hosteen Chee; and 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Emmajean is preceded in death by her husband, LaSalle Hall; parents, Steven Tsosie and Dorothy Davis; sisters, Louise Ann Harvey and Patricia Mae Begaye; brother, Leroy T. Harvey; and son, LaSalle Faron Hall.

Pallbearers will be LaSalle Jones, Latralle Jones, Nicholas Begaye, Kevin Vernon Tom, Nolan Stephen Begaye, and Nicholson Begaye. Honorary pallbearers will be Franklin S. Begaye, Jackie Ray Hall, Isidore T. Begay, Ralph T. Begay, and Marcellus S. Begaye.

A reception will take place at the Lukachukai Chapter House following services. Summit Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Erma J. Eddie

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Erma J. Eddie, 55, are pending.

Erma was born in Fort Defiance, into the Tótsohnii (Big Water Clan), born for Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). She died May 7, 2018, in Gallup. Erma graduated from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and served in the Army National Guard. She was an accountant and receptionist who loved to read and work with computers.

Erma is survived by her father, Naswood Begay; sisters, Ruth Marrietta and Veronica Keetso of Farmington, Priscilla Dempsey and Jolene Kee of Salina Springs, Arizona; and brothers, Gilbert Begay of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Jonathan Kee and Joe Kee Jr. of Salina Springs. Erma is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth J. Begay. Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Jake Pinto

COUNSELOR, N.M. — Funeral services for Jake Pinto, 89, of Counselor, New Mexico, were held May 3 at the Cedar Hill Church in Counselor, with Pastor Peter Sala officiating. Interment followed in Counselor.

Jake was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Pueblo Pintado, New Mexico, into the Naakai dine’é (Mexican Clan), born for Hashk’aa hadzohí (Yucca Fruit-Strung-Out-In-A-Line Clan). He died April 23, 2018, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

Jake worked as a pipe worker, DNA representative, Cuba liaison bus driver, railroad worker, rancher, irrigator, and local driver education teacher. He enjoyed raising children and spoke five languages (English, Navajo, Spanish, Pueblo, and Apache).

Jake is survived by his wife, Bessie S. Pinto; daughters, Joann Manygoats and Jean Pinto; brothers, Charlie Yazzie, Jimmie Y. Pinto, Donald Wood, Johnny Wood, and Gary Wood; sisters, Fannie Jim, Francina Ramone, Roberta Sandoval, and Nancy W. Brown; and 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Jake is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Wood and Emma Pena Pinto; sons, David Pinto, Mike Pinto, and Teddy Pinto; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Larry Manygoats, Freddie Pinto, Philbert Sala, Travis Chiquito, Ernest Chiquito, Franklin Pinto Sr., Kevin Chiquito Sr., and Cecil Jim Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Leo Sala, Donald Wood, Charlie Yazzie, Johnny Wood, Jimmie Y. Pinto, and Gary Wood.
