Elsie Wilson
FORT DEFIANCE – Elsie “Ellie” Wilson was born June 30, 1948, in Fort Defiance. She passed away peacefully on the morning of Oct. 20, 2024.
Elsie’s maternal clan is Dibéłzhíní (Black Sheep Clan) and paternal clan is Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan). Her maternal grandfather is Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge) and paternal grandfather is Honágháahnii (One-walks-around).
Elsie was the second oldest of the nine Wilson siblings. She was an extraordinary woman who lived fearlessly, loved endlessly and embraced everyone, including her furry friends.
Elsie was an adventurous woman, which led her to the farthest places to work in the field of her medical career such as Boston and Kotzebue, Alaska. She will be missed and remembered forever.
Elsie is survived by her sisters, Anita Wilson and Anne Calabrese; brothers, Robert (Virginia), Larson (Emma), Clyde (Angelina), and Ernest (Rose); and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joe and Rose Wilson; and brothers, Eddie and Abraham Wilson.

Quenby J. Cody
WINSLOW, Ariz. — Funeral services for Quenby Jill Cody, 36, of Winslow, Arizona, were held Oct. 28 at the Pentecostal Church in Winslow, with Resita Paddock officiating. Interment followed in Winslow.
Quenby was born July 8, 1988, in Winslow, into the Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle Clan), born for Hashk’ąą hadzohí (Yucca Fruit-Strung-Out-In-A-Line Clan). She passed away Oct. 20, 2024, in Winslow.
Quenby enjoyed socializing, cooking, and making people smile and laugh.
Quenby is survived by her son, Princeton Barnell; mother, Valerie Morris; father, Raymond Cody; brother, Logan Cody; sisters, Chantilly and Cherokee; maternal grandparents, Lee and Mary Ann Morris; and paternal grandparents, Harris and Diana Cody.
Pallbearers were Logan, Kallum, Jarrett, Raul, and Yancie.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy, Raymond, Princeton, and Caxton.
Greers Mortuary oversaw arrangements.
Walter S. James
GANADO, Ariz. — Graveside service for Walter Stanley James, 70, of Ganado, Arizona, will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m., at the Ganado community cemetery.
Walter was born Sept. 11, 1954, in Ganado, into the Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan), born for Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan). He passed away Oct. 28, 2024, in Flagstaff.
Walter is preceded in death by his mother, Lillie W. James; father, Billie R. James Sr.; sister, June James; and brother, Billie R. James Jr.
Pallbearers will be family members.
A reception will take place at Walter and Ruthie James’ residence following service.
Melinda Golden
TOHATCHI, N.M. — Funeral services for Melinda Golden, 63, of Coyote Canyon, New Mexico, will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., at the Tohatchi United Pentecostal Church in Tohatchi, New Mexico, with Rev. Martin Eastridge officiating. Burial will follow in Tohatchi.
Melinda was born July 25, 1961, in Rehoboth, New Mexico, into the Tódích’íi’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tł’ógí (Hairy Ones/Weaver-Zia Clan). She passed away Oct. 29, 2024, in Gallup.
Melinda graduated from Tohatchi High School in 1979 and pursued her associate degree in Christian education from Christian Life College. She was an active student with Diné College for her bachelor’s degree.
Melinda was employed as a quality assurance manager with Tohatchi Area of Opportunity Inc., in Gallup. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Lanai, Remi, and Jasai.
Melinda is survived by her husband, Wilson Golden; son, Will Golden; daughter, Tashina Golden; father, Edison A. Begay Sr.; brothers, Edison “Chip” Begay Jr. and Edwin Begay; sister, Melvina Livingston; and granddaughters, Lanai, Remi, and Jasai Golden.
Melinda is preceded in death by her mother, Pearl P. Begay; brothers, Douglas Begay and Michael Begay; maternal grandparents, Ned and Bekisbah Plummer Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Hosteen and Hanabah Begay.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Begay, Shawn Begay, Arvis Livingston, Darell Golden, Malachi Livingston, and Lyle Footracer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason King, Clayton Hall, Theron Nez, Arjhorn Begay, Keion Allen, and Quentin Begay.
A reception will take place at the Tohatchi Chapter House following services.
