Mabel J. Belone

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Mabel Jean Belone, 84, of Fort Defiance, were held Oct. 9 at the Assembly of God Church in Fort Defiance, with Scott Merritt officiating. Interment followed at the family plot (4.5 miles north on Old Red Lake Road).

Mabel Jean Belone, April 12, 1940 – Oct. 4, 2024

Mabel was born April 12, 1940, in Cross Canyon, Arizona, into the Tábąąhá (Water’s Edge Clan). She passed away Oct. 4, 2024, in Fort Defiance.

Mabel attended Kinlichee Boarding School and Intermountain Indian School. She worked as a cook for Motor Inn in Window Rock, and at Riverside Indian School.

Mabel enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching World Wrestling Entertainment and Law and Order.

Mabel is survived by her son, Ricky Yazzie Sr.; daughters, Julie Belone and Sylvia Belone; brother, Chester Harlow; sister, Stella Begay; and 38 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren.

Mabel is preceded in death by her husband, Julius Belone Sr.; and sons, Feddrick Belone, Julius Belone Jr., Patrick Belone, and Ferdinand Belone.

Pallbearers were Jared Burbank, Derin Bahe, Angel Belone, Julian Belone, Ryle Castillo, Ivan Bahe, Joseph Nez, and Arnoldson Woodman Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Albertina John, Yvette Johnson and Clarence Archie Jr.

Silver Creek Mortuary oversaw arrangements.

Timothy Brown

CHINLE — Funeral services for Timothy Brown, 51, of Chinle, will be held Friday, Oct. 11, at 9 a.m., at the Potter’s House in Chinle, with Arttie Aragon officiating. Burial will follow in Chinle.

Timothy Brown, Jan. 14, 1973 – Oct. 4, 2024

Timothy was born Jan. 14, 1973, in Fort Defiance, into the Naakai Dine’é (Mexican Clan). He passed away Oct. 4, 2024, in Chinle.

Timothy worked as a welder, ironworker, and was self-employed in hauling wood and helping his grandmothers.

Timothy is survived by his sons, Thurman and Matthew Brown; daughters, Shalayne and Carleigh Brown; parents, Fred and Lucy Hardy; brothers, Preston Joe, Derrick Yazzie and Fernando Hardy; and four grandchildren.

Timothy is preceded in death by his son, Tyler L. Brown; sister, Drina Yazzie; and both grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Benally, Derrick Yazzie Jr., Leonard Bia, Melton Shirley, Nathan Yazzie, and Thurman Brown.

A reception will take place at the Hogan Gallery parking lot (Indian Route 7, milepost 10.5) in Canyon De Chelly following services.

Green Meadows Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.

Damian L. Marler

PHOENIX — Funeral services for Damian Lee Marler will be held at a later date.

Damian Lee Marler, Sept. 10, 1999 – Sept. 17, 2024

Damian was born Sept. 10, 1999, in Mesa, Arizona, into the Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan), born for Bilagáana. He passed away Sept. 17, 2024, in Phoenix.

Damian was an ironworker in the Phoenix area and loved working out and spending time with his family. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Damian is survived by his daughter, Scarlett Marler; mother, Lisa Benally; father, Kristopher Marler; brothers, Andrew Marler and Kyle Marler; aunt, Stephanie Billie; uncles, Reese Benally, Gabriel Benally, Hector Lapahie, and Trevor Lapahie; and 16 cousins.

Damian is preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Tom Walter Yazzie and Marie Price Yazzie; great-uncles, Jonathan Benally and Arnold Watchman; great-aunts, Barbara J. Benally and Lorencita Yazzie; and aunts, Amanda Benally and Renee Benally.
