SHONTO, Ariz. — A graveside dedication for Haskie Barlow, 93, was held Sept. 12 at the family plot in Shonto, Arizona.

Haskie was born Dec. 20, 1925, in Cowsprings, Arizona, to Howard and Elizabeth Barlow. He died Sept. 9, 2017, at his home in Shonto.

Haskie was Lók’aa’ dine’é (Reed People Clan), born for the Zuni Edgewater Clan. His maternal grandparents are Yé’ii Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People) and his paternal grandparents are Tl’’z’ lán’ (Many Goats).

Haskie’s interest in life was tending to his sheep and horses and being a silversmith in his early years. His occupation consisted of various jobs through the years in carpentry, railroad, pre-school and becoming a medicine man in his later years.

Haskie is survived by his brother, Woody Barlow; and one son, seven daughters, 36 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Haskie will be greatly missed. May our loved one rest in paradise.

BLACK MOUNTAIN, Ariz. — Funeral services for Bobbie Charley, 91, of Cottonwood, Arizona, will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Black Mountain Mennonite Church in Black Mountain, Arizona, with Daniel Smiley officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood.

Bobbie was born July 12, 1926, in Cottonwood, into the Tód’ch’’i’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan). He died Sept. 6, 2017, in Mesa, Arizona.

Bobbie is survived by his sons, James Charley, Nelson Charley, Bobby Kee Charley, David Charley, Harry Charley, Dennis Charley and Edison Charley; daughters, Linabah Charley, Virginia Charley, Cecelia Bowman and Shirley Begay; brothers, Don Charley, Benny Charles and Henry Charley; sisters, Jane Dedman and Edith Charley; and 59 grandchildren, 137 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Bobbie is preceded in death by Isabelle H. Charley, Tom and Eva Charley, John Charley, Thomas Charley, Lilly Charley, Nellie Hosteen, Hasbah Moore, Sally Begay, Delbert Q. Charley, Shuree Tso and Tamara Charley.

Pallbearers will be Aairn James, David Charley Jr., Feliscia Blackwater, Darry Yazzie, Darryl Yazzie, Vincent Charley, Joshua Charley and Kayo Gene.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Charley, Nelson Charley, Bobby Kee Charley, David Charley, Harry Charley, Dennis Charley and Edison Charley.
Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Devin D. Norton

GALLUP — Funeral services for Devin D. Norton, 31, will be held Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at the Lone Pine Cemetery in Mexican Springs, New Mexico.

Devin was born May 5, 1986, into the Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Bit’ahnii (Under His Cover Clan). His nali is Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People); chei is Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People). He died Sept. 10, 2017.

Devin sang with the drum groups Krazy Kreek, Tha Horses and NDN Horse. He was also well known for his tattoo artistry.

Devin is survived by his parents, Frank and Dianna Norton; sister, Wanda Norton; and brothers, Donald Norton and Donovan Norton.

Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Chee, Lester Arthur, Gerald Jim, Nate Bitsoie, Jessie White, Jason Duboise, Craig Bitsilly, Darin Barney and Jarred Stevens.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

John D. Joe

NAVAJO MOUNTAIN, Ariz. — Funeral services for John D. Joe, 85,Êwill be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. (MST) at the Navajo Mountain Alliance Church in Navajo Mountain, Arizona. Burial will follow at the Ketchum’s family plot.

John was born April 12, 1932, into the Tl’ááshch’’’ (Red Bottom People Clan), born for Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan). He died Sept. 8, 2017, in Flagstaff.

John served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War on July 15, 1953 to July 14, 1957. He completed his reserve status from the Marine Corps on July 15, 1961.

John is survived by his wife, Julia N. Joe; stepdaughters, Carol Begay, Laura Begay, Leta Begay and Walita Begay; son, Daniel Joe (from his previous marriage to Sara Joe); and three grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Joe.

A reception will take place at the Navajo Mountain Alliance Church following the burial.

Valley Ridge Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
