Fannie Dineyazhe Etsitty
ST. MICHAELS, Ariz. – Funeral services for Fannie Dineyazhe Etsitty, 92, of Fort Defiance, were held May 16 at the Mother Mary of Mankind Church in St. Michaels, Ariz., with Rev. Jose Gatry officiating. Interment followed in St. Michaels.
Fannie was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Sunrise Springs, Ariz., into the Kiyaa’aanii (Towering House Clan), born for Kinlichii’nii (Red House Clan). She died May 11, 2016, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Fannie attended St. Michael Indian School and was a rancher. She operated an independent arts and crafts business that took her throughout the country. She served on the Navajo Tribal Arts and Crafts Enterprise Board of Directors, was general manager of the Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild, and served on the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial Board in Gallup.
Fannie was recognized as a living treasure in Arizona in 2001, and was named Business Woman of the Year by the Navajo Nation Division of Economic Development.
Fannie is survived by her son, Victor Etsitty of Fort Defiance; daughters, Kathleen Bowman of Fort Defiance, Bea Bowman of Phoenix, Ernestine Etsitty of Twin Lakes, N.M., Verna Wilson of Stillwater, Okla., Geri Holden of Vancouver, Wash., and Sharon Etsitty of Scottsdale; brother, Frank Dineyazhe; sister, Ella Mae Begay; and 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Fannie is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Etsitty; son, Edison Bowman Jr.; parents, Bessie Lee Dineyazhe and Andrew Dineyazhe Sr.; sisters, Juanita Chapela, Marie Davis, and Mary Chischilly; and brothers, Thomas Dineyazhe, Andrew Dineyazhe Jr., and Stanley Dineyazhe.
Pallbearers were Merle Anderson Jr., Victor Etsitty Jr., David Etsitty, Demarko Bobo, Edison Etsitty, Tsosie Nordwall, Dylan Nordwall, and Fox Rodriguez.
Honorary pallbearers were Victor A. Etsitty Sr., David E. Holden, William Wilson, Michael Begay, Frank Dineyazhe Jr., Merle Chischilly, Bennett Dineyazhe, and Patrick Cleveland Jr.
Cope Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Kylelisha Marie Showie
FORT DEFIANCE – Funeral services for Kylelisha Marie Showie, 3 months, of Blue Canyon, Ariz., were held May 13 at the Potter House in Fort Defiance, with Pastor Haven officiating. Interment followed at the Fort Defiance cemetery.
Kylelisha was born Jan. 13, 2016, in Fort Defiance, into the Tódich’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan), born for Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). Her cheii is Naakai dine’é (Mexican); nali is Tótsohnii (Big Water). She died May 8, 2016, in Blue Canyon.
Kylelisha liked to smile, drink milk, and loved listening to Stateline.
Kylelisha is survived by her parents, Alberta Billie and Alton Showie; brothers, Ozzy Watchman Jr., Jacob Watchman, Andrew Showie, and Kyle Showie; sisters, Tiffany Watchman, Renee Showie, and Roberta Watchman; grandmothers, Regina Tsosie and Rena Billie; and nali, Marie Showie.
Kylelisha is preceded in death by her great-great-grandparents, Gloria and Jimmy Scott; uncle, Jonathan Bahe Showie; and paternal grandfather, Leo Showie Sr.
Pallbearers were Alton Showie, Timothy Showie, Leo Showie Jr., and Marvin Tulley.
Honorary pallbearers were Cory Barney and Albert Billie Jr.
Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Marie Rose Tully
GALLUP – Funeral services for Marie Rose Tully, 89, were held May 16 at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Interment followed at the family plot in Coyote Canyon, N.M.
Marie was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Coyote Canyon, into the Kinyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Bit’ahnii (Folded Arms Clan). She died May 12, 2016, in Coyote Canyon.
Marie was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital and various other jobs. She was caring, humble, and very active in church. Her favorite hymn was Amazing Grace.
Marie is survived by her husband, Thomas Tully of Coyote Canyon; sons, Wilford McKinley, Herman Livingston, and Louie Tully, all of Coyote Canyon; daughter, Genevieve Tully of Coyote Canyon; sister, Emma Pinto of Vanderwagen, N.M.; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marie Dennison; sisters, Bessie, Esther, Nora, Katheryn Mary and Evelyn; daughter Gloria; and son Charles.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Upshaw, Joshua West, Brian Hoskie, Thomas Livingston, Shay Ahasteen, and Issac Ahasteen.
Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
