Diné Nation Little League plans for summer baseball season
FORT DEFIANCE
Diné Nation Little League has begun planning for the 2016 summer baseball and softball season.
DNLL President Yvonne Kee-Billison said the season will start in May 2016 with Tee Ball and Minor League games. She said an early start would give Tee Ball and Minor League divisions more games for the season.
“The grand opening may be held the first week of June 2016,” she said. “The school year will end and the summer will begin. We would like to give a chance to the parents and children to enjoy the graduation season.”
Kee-Billison said the purpose of starting the season early would allow parents and children to plan for registration. She said league registration begins in January 2016, so families will be able to plan better.
“We would like to find out if there are other communities that would like to participate and possibly even organize their leagues,” she said. “The process of developing a league is really not that difficult. It is something that DNLL and District 10 Little League can assist with. Just a thought, but last year there were other students and families that wanted a league in their communities, but there just wasn’t enough time. I hope we can help those communities get organized a little early.”
She said league registration will begin in January and will end the last week in March. She said if everything goes as planned, a player draft will be held and practice may begin in April and games will start in May.
