ABCA all-star game set for Saturday
FORT DEFIANCE
The best seniors from Division III will battle the top seniors from Division IV in the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association all-star girl’s and boy’s basketball games.
The all-star games will be played at Theo Heap Gymnasium at Mesa Community College this Saturday. The girl’s game tips off at 2 p.m. (MST) and is one of four games scheduled. The boy’s contest is set for 5:30 p.m.
Sandwiched between the small school classifications are the girl’s DI all-stars and the DII all-stars at 3:45 p.m. The boy’s DI all-stars and DII all-stars take the floor at 7:15 p.m.
DIII boy’s representative Ricky Greer, of Winslow, said this year’s format changed. He said the game date was moved from May to March, so many of the players can participate. He said graduation and other activities prevented some of the players to participate during the previous years.
Greer said ABCA also changed the traditional North/South all-star game format to divisions playing each other. He said the rosters were changed and includes 15 players per squad.
“The competition will be great,” he said. “There are so many talented seniors. Everyone is looking forward to the all-star game.”
