With time running out, Adrian Destea came down with the rebound and put it back in, giving the Window Rock Scouts the lead as they held on for a 45-43 win over Miyamura Saturday night.

“He was in position. I give him credit with getting the rebound,” Window Rock head coach Tom Bizardi said.

The win improved Window Rock to 2-0 on the season.

“We are just getting ready for the conference season,” Bizardi said.

Window Rock got off to a slow start, as Miyamura jumped to a 7-0 lead and held the Scouts without a point, until a Terrell Francisco free throw with under two minutes left in the first.

Miyamura led early and had 9-3 after one period.

After the slow start Window Rock battled back in the second, and a 3-pointer with 4:45 left gave them their first lead, 12-11.

Miyamura took the lead with a pair of free throws by Jarron Cadman, but at halftime Window Rock was on top 20-17.

The teams exchanged leads throughout the second half, with Window Rock leading by as many as five, 27-22, and headed into the fourth the Scouts were on top 31-29.

Miyamura had a 43-40 lead with two minutes left, but with under a minute to go Darrien Long hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 43.

Miyamura had the ball and a chance to win, but turned it over, and Window Rock held for the late shot, a three-pointer, which did not fall but Destea came up with the board and put in the game winner.

“Give credit to Window Rock,” Miyamura head coach Ray Hernandez said. “They were the better team tonight.”

Despite the loss, Hernandez said he saw a lot of good things from his team and that they will get better as they push towards the district season.

“We have a relatively young team with only five seniors,” Hernandez said. “We are going to get better, but we have to learn late-game execution.”

Leading the way for Window Rock was Cauy Silversmith with 21 points, while Destea finished with 10.

For Miyamura, Cadman had 19 and Rodriguez finished with 10 points.
