Bloomfield boys top Shiprock in district play
BLOOMFIELD, N.M.
Over a month ago, the Bloomfield Bobcats were on the brink of another familiar season.
They were close to falling into a season where losses became the norm and their confidence subsided.
The Bobcats hit some turbulence throughout the regular season, but now two games into the district season, the team is sitting at the top of District 1-4A, tied with Kirtland Central High School.
Bloomfield’s latest victory came over the weekend when they defeated the Shiprock High School Chieftains, 64-37, in a district game. The Bobcats are 2-0 in district and Shiprock is 1-1.
Bloomfield head coach Devon Manning said after their rough patch, his team is finally playing at the level they’ve been building up to for the last couple of seasons.
“We went through a little downward spiral for a little bit, but I think right now we’re starting to find our identity as a team, individually, too,” Manning said. “Some kids are starting to realize it’s easy to step up when needed to. We’re starting to look a little bit what I hoped we’d look like.”
That look is made up of some tough defense, strong outside shots and the ability to play as a team. All of which Bloomfield demonstrated last weekend.
