Scouts, Bulldogs renew rivalry in WR win

On Tuesday night, Window Rock pulled off a thriller, posting a 52-44 victory over Winslow at the Fighting Scouts Events Center.
“Our defense made the difference in the ball game,” said head coach Raul Mendoza. “We got some steals. We forced turnovers, especially in the fourth quarter.”
After falling behind by as much as 10 points in the first quarter, 18-8, the Scouts began chipping away at Winslow’s lead. Winslow held a three-point advantage, 28-25, at the end of the first half.
With over three minutes left in the third period, Window Rock’s Trent Long tied the game with a three-pointer and lifted the Scouts to a two-point lead, 36-32, with a jumper.
A basket by Brandon Chickaway gave the Scouts a 36-32 lead. A basket by Jalen Brady brought the Bulldogs within one point, 36-35, as time expired, ending the third quarter.
Window Rock increased the lead to four points, 39-35, with 6:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. Winslow regained the lead, 42-41,scoring a pair of baskets by Rory Billie.
With 1:12 remaining in the game, Myron Wauneka canned a basket, giving the Scouts a 45-42 advantage. Long scored Window Rock’s final seven points, including three free throws and two buckets.
Mark Faust tallied eight points and Trelonnie Sanders added seven points for Winslow.
“We committed too many turnovers, especially in the fourth quarter,” said Winslow head coach Ricky Greer. “Some of the turnovers we committed were unforced.”
