Alchesay needs to replace 3 stars
WINDOW ROCK
Even without three talented players, the Alchesay football team is looking to win the 2A Little Colorado Region and advance into the state playoffs.
The Falcons have to replace Tyreck Cosay, Kellen Parrish and Cesario Hernandez as they helped Alchesay to a 9-2 record last season as seniors.
Last year, Parrish (defensive back) was named the region’s Defensive Player of the Year while Cosay (running back) and Hernandez (offensive lineman) made the All-Region, First Team.
“They were three most talented kids we had on the team last year but I think we have guys that can replace them,” Alchesay coach Brandon Newcomb said. “They haven’t been tested but I think our scrimmage and preconference games will be a good test preparation for us before we head into the Little Colorado games.”
Despite losing some talented players from last year’s team, Newcomb said his returning linemen, Noah Walker, Kendrick Clitso and Rico Riley should give his team a good foundation to build on, as they will be key in cogging up the front.
He’s looking at junior Davin Parker to replace Cosay at running back.
“David played meaningful minutes last year,” Newcomb said. “I think he has the ability to be a quality running back in our offense.”
