Cats romp past Window Rock
FORT DEFIANCE
Chinle took advantage of Window Rock’s mental mistakes as the Wildcats romp past the Scouts, 33-13, in prep football action at Judd Avey Memorial Stadium in Fort Defiance.
Chinle head coach Tim Su’e Su’e Liufau said the Wildcats competed and had fun.
“All I ask the guys is to go out and compete and have fun,” Su’e Su’e said. “The guys did their job. Window Rock committed turnovers and we took advantage. It was a good win for our program.”
Chinle struck pay dirt first. On the opening series, Chinle running back turned quarterback Rodney Nez connected with Ty Guy on a 35-yard touchdown pass with 10:58 remaining. The PAT failed, as Chinle held a 6-0 lead.
Window Rock head coach Greg Barker said his defensive back failed to defend Chinle’s receiver.
“We thought our defensive back was going to make a play but he got turned around and Chinle’s receiver caught the ball and went into the end zone for a touchdown,” Barker said. “The touchdown gave Chinle the confidence they needed.”
