SHIPROCK

The Crownpoint Eagles turned a pair of Shiprock punt mistakes into two touchdowns and forced another turnover that set up their only offensive score before relying on their defense to secure an 18-6 victory over the Chieftains.

The Eagles improved to 2-1 with the win while Shiprock fell to 0-3 despite holding the Eagles scoreless throughout the second half.

“We were fortunate enough to have a lead, which allowed us to continue to work our kids into the offense,” Crownpoint head coach Chris Murphy said.

The trouble started early for the Chieftains when a snap on their first punt attempt sailed over the punter’s head. Crownpoint lineman Ely Curley recovered the loose ball at the 5-yard line and carried it into the end zone for the game’s first touchdown which put Crownpoint ahead 6-0.
