FORT DEFIANCE

Four former Window Rock Scouts standouts gained invaluable experience in the 2015 Native All-Star Football game at Maverick Stadium on the campus of University of Texas-Arlington last week.

Running back/safety Tony Walker, quarterback/safety Latrell Kaye, fullback/middle linebacker Kobe Toadlena and wide receiver/cornerback Chad Myron competed in the 13th annual event with top athletes selected to the team.

A combine was held to test the players’ skills. At conclusion of the combine, a draft was held, where each athlete was either placed on the Red Hawks or Blue Eagles. At conclusion of the draft, each team had a week of practice prior to the game.

During the draft, Walker, Toadlena and Myron were placed on the Blue Eagles while the Red Hawks drafted Kaye.

The Red Hawks prevailed, taking a 43-30 victory over the Blue Eagles.

Utilizing his quickness and speed, Walker rushed for 215 yards on 15 carries. He bolted into the end zone for two touchdowns from 45 yards and 15 yards out. He did have one touchdown called back, due to a penalty. For his outstanding performance, Walker was selected the Offensive Player of the Game for his team. Afterward he was presented a trophy.

“It was an honor to compete in this prestigious all-star football game,” Walker said. “It was a great experience to compete with the best players. It is a game I will never forget. Players from various states competed. The facilities were great and the hospitality was great.”
