ALBUQUERQUE

After a scoreless first half, the New Mexico North All-Stars imposed their will over the South football team with a 19-6 victory in last Friday’s annual installment at the Community Stadium in Albuquerque.

The North team opened the second half with a different mindset and scored on three consecutive possessions with Bloomfield High graduate Adrian Vigil running for two touchdowns.

“We had to learn from each other and we made the adjustments,” Vigil said, while adding that his offensive line provided him plenty of space to work with.

“I had beautiful blocks everywhere,” he said.

Vigil said it was an honor to play with his high school teammates one more time before they head to college as Bloomfield had Raymundo Sanchez, Angel Jacquez and Jacob Langford make the team.

“We’ve played together the last four years so it was a great way to go out,” he said.

In addition to the Bloomfield all-stars, the North team had seven other area players that made the all-star game as the players were chosen through the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

“It was a good experience, going up against the people we played during the regular season,” Kirtland Central All-Star Jacob Belin said. “And for us to come together like this and pull off the win speaks well about the sport of football.”

For the game, Belin was credited with five solo tackles as the team’s leading linebacker.

“Our defense pretty much stopped their air attack and when it came to running the ball we hit them in the mouth,” Belin said. “We had a lot of success with that but it was mainly about reading the offense.”
