Page quarterback runs wild over Scouts
FORT DEFIANCE
It was the Jacob Doyle show as he helped the Page Sand Devils to a 50-0 pasting of the Window Rock Fighting Scouts in a 3A North Region football game at Judd Avey Memorial Stadium in Fort Defiance.
A running clock was instituted in the second half, due to mercy rule.
Doyle, a senior quarterback, rushed for three touchdowns, threw one touchdown pass and scored a two-point PAT. Doyle rushed for 33 yards on six carries. Doyle completed 1-of-2 passes for 43 yards.
Page head coach Mitchell Stephens said the Sand Devils worked together as a team.
“The victory was a team effort,” Stephens said. “The guys worked hard in practice all week. This was our first 3A North Region game this season. The guys wanted to win our region opener on the road. All the hard work paid off tonight.”
Window Rock head coach Wilbur Begay Jr. said the Scouts played hard, but fell short.
“First, we lost our quarterback, Tyrell Boyd, early in the game,” Begay said. “Preliminary report says he broke an arm and suffered a shoulder separation. We will know tomorrow (Saturday). Page has an excellent quarterback and two running backs that have speed and quickness. Page has talented kids on both sides of the ball. Our kids did a good job. I am proud of the kids. They did not quit.”
