Barrel racer Paige Dale takes top honors at Eastern Navajo Fair

CROWNPOINT

With two years under his belt, Rex is still coming along for barrel racer Paige Dale.

The seven-year-old horse showed some of his rawness to the sport on Sunday afternoon as Dale had some trouble getting her horse to calm down before the start of her run at the 48th Annual Eastern Navajo Fair & Rodeo, which was pelted with rain the night before.

It took a while for Dale to get Rex into the arena and once she did the duo produced a first place run of 16.786 seconds.

“He gets a little nervous and he kind of freaked out,” she said. “He still gets nervous. This is his barely his second season running barrels and I’d say its nerves. He’s a young guy and we’re working on it.”

At other rodeos, Dale said her equine is a lot calmer. Sunday’s run at the ENF was the exception as she cited the setup of the arena.
