Ramon Curley was one of 150 bull riders that competed at this year’s National High School Finals Rodeo.
After it was all said and done the Coolfield, Ariz., cowboy was one of two bull riders that covered all of their draws during the weeklong event held last month in Rock Springs, Wyo.
With that the he finished as the national runner-up by accumulating 207 points, losing to the title to Washington cowboy Wyatt Covington by seven points.
“It hasn’t really sunk it but I had a lot of fun out there,” Curley said.
Going into nationals, people were telling Curley not to expect too much since the caliber of bulls were topnotch with some of them taking part in some of the prorodeo and PBR shows.
But after he rode his first round draw for 63 points, Curley had pictured himself making the championship round.
“After that first round I knew I could do it,” Curley said. “It wasn’t as hard as what people were telling me, and knowing that I can ride those bulls it gave me a lot of confidence.”
