IINFR cowboys and cowgirls go home empty-handed
SAN CARLOS, Ariz.
Based on raw numbers, the inaugural International Indian National Finals Rodeo did not generate enough interest.
The newly founded organization, which is headed by All Indian Rodeo Cowboy Association president Harrison Charley, was expecting at least 25 to 30 contestants per event at the four-day event, which was held at the Apache Gold Pavilion in San Carlos, Ariz., last weekend.
Instead, they attracted a fraction of that and as consequence it may have undermined their attempts to payoff the cowboys and cowgirls the lucrative amounts they were promised.
In an interview with the Navajo Times last month, Charley stated this year’s finals was going to have $42,000 added money with $3,000 going to every event.
