SHONTO, Ariz.

Tie-down roper Kordale Secody found himself in bind during the final performance at the 54th annual Shonto Rodeo on Sunday afternoon.

After making a clean catch the Page, Ariz., cowboy had his curl end of his rope get twisted in the back end of his calf. Instead of panicking, Secody managed to pull off the rope as if nothing ever happened.

“When that happened I was thinking if should go under the rope and flip it over,” Secody confessed. “But I yanked the rope off the tail and the calf spun around nice and that was when I picked up and strung it.”

Needless to say, that dilemma could have cost him the all-around as Secody won the tie-down event in Sunday performance with a winning time of 12.38 seconds.

The 26 year-old cowboy also placed second in the ribbon roping with a time of 10.92 seconds on Sunday to push his two-day total to $632, which was enough to secure the $1,000 all-around cash award.

“I think winning the tie-down event was what did it for me,” he said, while adding that going into Sunday’s round he had to pull off a near perfect performance.

“I was tied with Tyler Donald on Saturday,” Secody said. “We finished pretty close to one another so I knew I had to step up my game.”
