Rehoboth avenges loss with 3-1 win over Oak Grove

REHOBOTH, N.M.

The Rehoboth Christian Lynx were bettered prepared to handle the physicality of the Oak Grove Classical Academy soccer team.

The Lynx avenged a one-goal, overtime loss to the Owls two weeks ago with a 3-1 win over Oak Grove on Tuesday evening at Rehoboth Christian High School.

“The biggest thing is we were more ready for their level of physicality,” Rehoboth coach Philip Frederiksen said. “They are a very physical team, and they hustle and so we’ve been working on preparing for that for the past few weeks.”

The Rehoboth coach also noted that they possessed the ball a lot better compared to their earlier meeting on Oct. 4.

“We were able to move the ball around in relation to our last game,” Frederiksen said.

For the Lynx, they had three different players that found the back of the net with junior Jadon Ippel, sophomore Simon Frederiksen and junior Thijs Meester scoring.

Ippel scored his goal in the 8th minute and in the 24th minute, Oak Grove committed a foul inside the box. With that, Simon Frederiksen nailed the penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.

The Owls got one of those scores back, the Rehoboth coach said, shortly after halftime.

“The shot they had took a deflection and it spun past our keeper,” Philip Frederiksen said.

The Lynx then got an insurance run from Meester to seal the 3-1 triumph as the win keeps Rehoboth in the running for a playoff bid.

“We’re on the bubble,” Frederiksen said. “We’re right on the 8-9 bubble so it’s going to come down to the last couple of games we have.”

The Lynx will host Bosque today at 3 p.m. before traveling to East Mountain on Oct. 21. For its regular season finale, Rehoboth entertains Cottonwood Classical Prep on Oct. 23.

“They’re all good competition and it’s going to be tough, but I think we’re up for it,” Frederiksen said. “If we can show up for those games, we’ve got a really good chance of making the playoffs.”
