CAC’s Jackson Thomas earns NJCAA All-America honors
FORT DEFIANCE
Central Arizona College sophomore distance runner Jackson Thomas finished third in the grueling 10K race at the National Junior College Athletic Association Track and Field Championships at Hutchinson, Kan. to help lead the team to national runner-up.
Thomas, a Navajo from Albuquerque, was clocked in 31:37. Thomas earned First Team All-America honors for his effort.
“Jackson had a wonderful season,” said CAC assistant coach Jonathan Harmon. “He ran strong throughout the season. He helped us win the regional championship. The 10K field was tough. He ran a strong race. The coaching staff is proud of Jackson’s contributions for the past two years. We’re going to miss him. He has offers to continue to race at a four-year college. We wish him the best.”
Freshman Brian Masayesva, of Tuba City, claimed 13th place in the 10K. He was timed in 34:07. His twin brother, Anthony Masayesva, suffered from an illness during the race and did not finish.
“It was a learning experience for Brian,” Harmon said. “The competition is strong and there is a lot of talent at the national meet. He had a good season. We expect Brian to have a solid season this fall in cross-country and next spring in track.”
