Diné College Women’s Cross Country team brings home a national cross country title

The Diné College women’s cross-country team brought home the team title at the 2014 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Cross Country National Championships, which was held in Syracuse, NY on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014.

​The Lady Warriors, who finished fourth last season, packed six runners in the top 12 to dominate the 30-team field.

​Diné College accumulated 37 points while second place finisher Cleary University of Howell, Mich., finished with 88 points.

​On the men’s side, Diné College made the podium as well finishing second to SUNY ESF. The New York-based university scored 39 points, 19 markers ahead of Diné College.

​“Their performance was awesome,” Diné College coach Shaun Martin said. “They had very specific individualize goals and they hit them.”

​Martin said the courses for both the men and women were much to their liking as it featured a lot of hills and grasses.

 

​“It played to our benefit,” he said. “It was a strength runners course and knowing that they got out well.”

 

​All together Diné College had eight runners earnedAll-American honors with the women’s team hauling in six awards.
