Hopi boys earn 26th straight title in Division IV
PHOENIX
Hopi continues to dominate the cross-country scene in Arizona.
The Bruins garnered its 26th straight title at the Division IV boy’s state cross country championship last Saturday at Cave Creek Golf Course.
“The team ran great,” Hopi head coach Rick Baker said. “The boys exceeded my expectations. The boys were awesome to capture our 26th straight state championship.”
Diome Talaswaima was Hopi’s top finisher and the overall runner-up. He was hooked up in a heated battle for state supremacy throughout the race with Many Farms senior Zhariff Lee.
Lee led after the first mile. With less than one mile remaining in the race, Talaswaima took a short lead. With the finish line in sight, the two sprinted in but Lee clocked a 16:33, while Talaswaima finished in 16:34.
