FARMINGTON

About four months ago the Navajo Prep girls’ cross-country team had trouble maintaining a pack.

But at the District 1-3A meet held at Lions Wilderness Park in Farmington on Oct. 31, the Lady Eagles proved they’ve come a long way.

Four of the Lady Eagles placed in the top five and collected a total of 21 points for the district title.

Navajo Prep head coach Stephanie McDonald said she knew that her team struggled to run as a pack throughout the season and was happy to see a breakthrough.

“I was happy,” she said. “I was impressed with how well they ran.”

Behind Navajo Prep was Rehoboth with 54 points and Newcomb placed third with 73 points.

Leading the Lady Eagles was junior Sarah Chacon. Chacon placed first overall with a time of 22:08.41.

Chacon said it was the first race she’s won all season but she was most proud of contributing to her team’s effort.
