Page turns in strong performance at Davis Invite
TUBA CITY
The Page Sand Devils turned in a strong performance at the Bud Davis Cross-Country Invitational in Tuba City, capturing the boys’ and girls’ divisions.
“This has been a challenging meet every year,” said Tuba City head coach Arvis Myron, who served as meet director. “The meet brings in top teams and top individual runners.
“The meet is named in memory of a former Tuba City cross-country coaching great, Bud Davis,” he said. “We continue the meet every year to honor coach Davis.”
Page nailed down the boys’ title, totaling 46 points, edging Tuba City, which tallied 50 points.
“Page has a strong team,” Myron said. “Page had three runners in the top 10 and we had three runners finishing in the top 10. In fact our fifth runner finished ahead of Page’s runner. Page’s second and third runners finished ahead of our second and third runner. That was the difference in our team finish.”
The 5K-course included the grueling TC hill, which is a incline that could make or break a runner.
“It is a challenging course,” Myron said. “When runners reach the TC hill, they have to be ready. The runner’s legs could burn out or the hill could hamper the runner’s back.”
Page’s Tyron Yazzie claimed the individual championship, touring the grueling 5K course in 17:29. The Sand Devils’ second runner was Isaac Manson, who crossed the finish line in fifth place with an 18:13, and Justin Littleman, who claimed sixth place with an 18:16 time.
