TOHATCHI, N.M.

The Tohatchi Lady Cougars were two points shy of finishing the first half of the district season in sole control of second place.

The Rehoboth Lady Lynx, however, had other things in mind as the Lynx turned things around in the fifth set as Rehoboth rallied with a 7-2 run to eke out a five set victory. The set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 17-15.

“I have to hand it to my girls,” Rehoboth coach Char Chapman said. “They did not stop fighting. They continued to fight until the end of the game and I am proud of them.” “Give all that credit to my girls for working so hard,” she continued. “Being positive is something we struggled with but tonight we did not get down on ourselves.”

Rehoboth (11-4, 2-1) closed out the first half of the district season with Navajo Prep this past Tuesday while Tohatchi remained idle 12-3 overall and 2-2 in District 1-3A play. During that game changing run Rehoboth scored five points off winners, including a stuff block and a nicely placed dink by junior middle hitter Sidni Brown.

“We have been working a lot with our mental toughness,” Brown said when asked about what put them over the top. “We did not letting our mistakes get to us when we got behind. We just shook it off and we’ve been working on that a lot.”
