Garrett Etsitty, who paints birds and other subjects drawn from Diné storytelling, collaborated with Gareb Shamus on a debut release through Shamus’ company, ArtPics Cards. The collection, now available at artpicscards.com, includes three original works painted on board, each encapsulated in a hard plastic slab by CGC, the same third-party grading and authentication firm widely used in the trading card and comic book hobby.
The pieces are small, about the size of a standard trading card, and each one is a one-of-a-kind original. Two are from a series Etsitty titled “Hummer’s Dance,” depicting hummingbirds in flight against vivid geometric backgrounds. The third, “Vision + Focus,” shows a close-up profile of an eagle set against a deep purple sky dotted with small white points. A bold red triangular form rises behind the bird’s head as part of the background composition.
