CHINLE
Bahazhooni Craig had just celebrated her seventh birthday when she attended the Navajo Nation Girl Scouts STEM Camp in Chinle.
When asked what she wanted to do for her birthday, Craig had a simple answer.
“Girl Scouts.”
The three-day camp brought together more than 60 Girl Scouts from throughout the Navajo Nation to Chinle High School May 5-7 for STEM education, leadership activities and mentorship from female role models. This year marked the eighth year Navajo Transitional Energy Company and the Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council have sponsored the free camp.
Activities included a morning run with Miss Navajo Nation Camille Uentillie, an educational Jeep tour through Canyon de Chelly, stargazing sessions featuring Navajo constellations, archery, bike riding and interactive rocket-building and launching exercises.
