Three Arizona utilities wrap up grant program for coal plant communities with five new awards

The Arizona Public Service, Salt River Project and Tucson Electric Power have selected five organizations in northeastern Arizona to receive grants totaling $110,000 in the final rounds of a program created to help communities manage the economic shift away from coal-fired power.

The Utility Grant Funding Program, launched in 2023 with a combined $1 million pledge from the three utilities, made its eighth and ninth – and final – round of awards to tribal, local and state government agencies, public schools and nonprofits within 75 miles of a closing or closed coal plant.
