FLAGSTAFF

Diné College on Feb. 29 signed an inter-institutional memorandum of understanding with Northern Arizona University aiming to increase educational opportunities within the Navajo Nation.

NAU President Rita H. Cheng and Diné College Interim President Martín M. Ahumada signed the agreement saying they are excited about the first step in formalizing a relationship where joint efforts and strategies can be discussed as part of a plan to increase educational opportunities within the Nation.

“We are thrilled to bring together the two institutions, our resources – combined can add great benefit to our students,” Cheng said.

Cheng said NAU’s vision for student success, which begins with acknowledging the potential for each individual in creating opportunity and the environment for that potential to thrive.

“We share the vision of excellence with Diné College,” Cheng said. “One that is centered on providing the best for our students.”

Cheng said the institutions will smooth the path to a bachelor’s degree through program articulation, curriculum development, joint support, among others.

They also agreed that both DC and NAU will preserve the integrity and the autonomy of each institution, permitting each to fulfill effectively its own mission and to deliver jointly selective programs of higher education instruction and education related services; and to provide a cost-effective educational delivery in the Nation.
