A 2026 Navajo Nation hardship assistance application portal was not open June 2, one day after a presidential executive order called for it to be open and operational.
In a June 2 memorandum, Controller Sean McCabe said his office had received many phone calls, emails and messages from community members asking about hardship assistance applications. The Office of the Controller also reported that some people may be using an old website link from a previous hardship assistance program administered by Baker Tilly.
“The Office of the Controller would like to inform the public that there is currently no open hardship assistance application process at this time,” the memorandum states.
The office warned that website links, application portals or forms connected to previous hardship assistance programs are not part of an active application period and should not be used for current program information.
The June 2 memorandum does not mention the June 1 deadline. No application process is open and key program details are still being developed, according to the memorandum.
