WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former Navajo Nation Vice President Myron Lizer spoke on Tuesday about key issues facing the Navajo Nation and Indian Country, as well as his possible appointment as assistant secretary of the Department of the Interior.
Lizer provided insights into his vision for economic development, health care improvements, and tribal advocacy considering political changes in Washington, D.C. He said he expects to learn within the next week or two whether he will secure the federal position.
Lizer praised the recent Navajo Nation inauguration events, calling them well-organized and a valuable opportunity to bring tribal leaders together. He noted the involvement of key organizers, including Navajo Nation Washington Office Executive Director Justin Ahasteen and other officials, in creating a successful and meaningful occasion.
“A lot of good words were spoken, and it was good to see so many tribal members gathered,” Lizer said. He emphasized the importance of such events in maintaining relationships and building momentum for advocacy efforts.
