Three Diné Democrats running for Arizona Legislative District 6 said during a June 16 debate that affordability, road safety and election access would be among their top priorities if elected to the state Legislature.
The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission debate featured Jamescita Peshlakai, Angela Maloney and Rep. Mae Peshlakai, who are running as a team. Ian Teller, a House candidate, and Rep. Myron Tsosie, who is term-limited in the House and is seeking the Senate seat, declined the commission’s invitations to debate.
Jamescita Peshlakai is seeking a return to the Senate after serving in the House from 2013 to 2015 and the Senate from 2017 until her 2021 resignation to join the Biden Administration. Maloney and Mae Peshlakai are seeking the two House seats.
Mae Peshlakai, who was elected to the House in 2022, is Jamescita Peshlakai’s mother and Maloney’s sister.
