FRUITLAND, N.M.
It has been over a week and a half since the 10th annual International Indian Finals rodeo came to a close and some of those who were hired to help have yet to see a dime.
Stock contractors like Dugan Morgan, who owns Morgan’s Roping Company from Pinehaven, N.M., were given IOUs after the award ceremony ended on Oct. 12.
They were also give a number of dates when they would finally get paid, but the dates came and still they wait.
Morgan said he was appalled by the way he and over 20 other stock contractors and those who were hired to help were treated.
“I don’t agree with the way they did things, they didn’t compensate us in any way,” he said. “It was just like whatever. There was no empathy from the committee. I believe we as stock contractors were kind of given the short end of the stick.”
