Obituaries for March 22, 2018

Anderson James

FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Anderson James, 54, were held March 19 at the Good Shepherd Mission in Fort Defiance. Interment followed in Fort Defiance. Anderson was born Sept. 7, 1963, in Gallup, into the Apache Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan). He died Feb. 21, 2018, in Phoenix.

Anderson worked for different companies and enjoyed drawing, playing Yahtzee and basketball. Anderson is survived by his sons, Brent Danny James and Chadney James; daughters, Cherolynn James, Tiffany S. James, Audrey S. James, Shenoah James and Justinia L. James; brother, Lorenzo James; sisters, Dorothy Nez, Viola Denny and Lorrine Fowler; and nine grandchildren.

Anderson is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin James and Elsie Chee; brother, Edward Ashley; and sister, Grace James. Pallbearers were Shawn L. James, Beau L. James, Jerry Yazzie and Oscar L. Hernando. Honorary pallbearers were Jayvin J. Houston, Brent D. James, Lorenzo James and Jesse L. Yazzie.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Lena Eskeets

REHOBOTH, N.M. — Funeral services for Lena Eskeets, 80, were held March 16 at the Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church in Rehoboth, New Mexico. Interment followed at the Rehoboth community cemetery.

Lena was born Dec. 23, 1936, in Leupp, Arizona, into the Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan), born for Tsénjíkiní (Honey Combed Rock People Clan). She died March 9, 2018, in Albuquerque. Lena attended Flagstaff High School, Northern Arizona University and Utah State.

She retired after 28 years as the financial assistance program supervisor from the State of New Mexico Income Support Division. Lena loved and enjoyed her family and friends, watching her grandchildren’s sports activities and enjoyed being actively involved with the Church Rock Senior Center. She was very loving and caring to her friends and family. She was a devoted wife of 60 years and faithfully devoted to her loving father, Jesus Christ.

Lena is survived by her husband, Louis Eskeets; sons, Ervin Patterson, Leon Eskeets and Lonnie Eskeets; daughter, LeAnn Yazzie; and brother, Eugene Charley. Lena is preceded in death by her son, Levon Eskeets; daughter, Lynette Eskeets; parents, Little and Bonnie Charley; brothers, Henry Charley, Jimmy Charley Sr. and Mark Charley; and sisters, Madesda Benally, Aurelia Moore and Vida Yazzie. Pallbearers were Allen West Jr., Talon West, Quentin Miller, Bennie Spencer III, Lee Eskeets and Lionel Eskeets.

Rollie Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
