Obituaries for Nov. 9, 2017

Jason Jay McCabe

GANADO, Ariz. — Funeral services for Jason Jay McCabe, 36, of Woodsprings, Arizona, were held Nov. 2 at the LDS Church in Ganado, Arizona, with Richard Clark officiating. Interment followed in Kinlichee, Arizona.

Jason was born March 2, 1981, in Phoenix, into the ’Áshiihí (Salt People Clan), born for Táchii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan). He died Oct. 28, 2017, in Ganado.

Jason graduated from Ganado High School in 2000 and attended Northland Pioneer College. He loved being with his nieces and nephews, and enjoyed watching football and all other sports.

Jason is survived by his father, Herman McCabe Sr.; sister, Timera McCabe; and brothers, Thurman McCabe and Derrick McCabe.

Jason is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Jean McCabe; brother, Herman McCabe Jr.; and grandparents, Kee and Irene D. Wilson.

Pallbearers were Malcolm Wilson, Travis Wilson, Melvin Watchman, Sullivan Watchman, Albert Nez and Derrick McCabe.

Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Wilson, Herman McCabe Sr., Milford Wilson, Dwayne Bia, Walter Bia and Clyde Harris.

Silver Creek Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Carlton B. Smith

GALLUP — Funeral services for Carlton B. Smith, 34, will be held today, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will follow at the Rehoboth Cemetery in Rehoboth, New Mexico.

Carlton was born April 9, 1983, in Gallup, into the Tódích’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan). He died Nov. 3, 2017, in Albuquerque.

Carlton graduated from Crownpoint High School and received an associate’s degree in general studies from Diné College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Arizona State University.

Carlton enjoyed singing, reading, watching movies, keeping up with social media and socializing with family and friends.

Carlton is survived by his mother, Charlotte J. Smith of Albuquerque; brother, Erwin Smith of Tse’ii’ahi, New Mexico; grandfather, Irvin C. Smith of Tse’ii’ahi; uncle, Alvin Smith of Mulholland Wells, New Mexico; aunts, Barbara Morgan of Crownpoint, Corraine Smith of Albuquerque, Laura Smith of Mesa, Arizona, and Sherry Smith of Tse’ii’ahi; and eight cousins and 13 nieces and nephews.

Carlton is preceded in death by his grandmother, Lorraine M. Smith; and uncle, Verne Morgan.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Smith, Lyle Smith, Jason Joe, Cory Joe, Erwin Smith, Christopher Billie, Leora Smith and Michelle Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alvin Smith, Kyle Smith, Irvin C. Smith, Buddy Smith, Starlyn Smith, Charmayne Smith, Harvey Heikkila and Dyland Boungert.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
