HUNTER’S POINT, Ariz. – A funeral mass and service was held for Harrison Pahe, 57, on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at the Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Fort Defiance, Ariz. A viewing was held at 9 a.m. and mass started at 10 a.m.

Harrison was born on March 26, 1961, into the Honaghanii (One Who Walks Around Clan), born for Tsinajinnie (Black Streaked People Clan). He was born at the old Fort Defiance Indian Hospital and grew up in Fort Wingate, N.M., with his sister and brothers.

He died on Sept. 11, 2018, in San Francisco, Calif. He lived in San Francisco for the past six years where he worked as a chef.

Harrison attended Wingate High School. He enjoyed fishing, grilling, cooking, reading, drawing, listening to all kinds of music and most of all, spending time with his children. He was a proud military veteran and served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Harrison is survived by his wife, Bernadette Pahe; son Jordan Pahe; daughters Chasity, Chantel and Gracielynn; parents Harold Pahe Sr. and Louise Begay; sister Brenda (Pahe) Arviso; brothers Gary Pahe and Harold Pahe Jr.; grandchildren Gilbert, Evelyn and Kiera.

Harrison was preceded in death by his grandparents Oscar and Ada Marie Wilson; aunt Gloria Wilson; uncles Curtis Wilson and Kelly Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold Pahe Sr., Gary Pahe, Harold Pahe Jr. and Gilbert Tewahaftewa.

Pallbearers were Patrick Chee, Tyler Chee, Kyle Chee, Iziah Tsosie and Samuel Lee.

Harrison was laid to rest at the Fort Defiance Veterans Cemetery. A reception was held following the service at the Fort Defiance Chapter House.

Summit Funeral Home of St. Michaels, Ariz. was in charge of arrangements.

GALLUP — Funeral services for Raymond E. Mosley Jr., 83, will be held today, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at Rollie Mortuary in Gallup. Burial will take place Monday, Oct. 1, at 12:45 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.

Raymond was born March 9, 1935, in Worth, West Virginia. He passed away Sept. 20, 2018.

Raymond was a 30-year Army veteran. He received a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies and professor law at San Francisco State University. He was a pilot, pilot instructor, senior personal instructor, and Secret Service agent in Washington, D.C. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mosley; sons, Jerome Mosley, David Nelson Jr., and Davidson Nelson; daughters, Devina Spencer and Ramona Nelson; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Nelson Jr., Davidson Nelson, Kelby Spencer, Herman Spencer Jr., Henry Jerry Long Sr., and Kee Long.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

REHOBOTH, N.M. — A reception to celebrate the life of Sidney Earl Gillson, 81, of Gallup, will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rehoboth Dining Hall in Rehoboth, New Mexico.

Sidney was born Dec. 9, 1936, in Eau Clare, Wisconsin. He passed away Sept. 5, 2018, in Gallup.

Sidney received a bachelor’s degree at Wheaton College and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin.

Sidney worked for over 27 years serving the Native and non-Native communities surrounding the Navajo Nation, all with the aim to improve the lives of individuals and families. He served the community by advancing specialized programs in health care, mental health, community development, alcoholism treatment, and social work.

Throughout his life, Sidney applied his broad knowledge and skills as a leader in many communities, particularly in his work with the Navajo Nation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Indian Health Service, Arizona Department of Welfare, and New Mexico Welfare Department.

Sidney had a creative and inventive mind and loved using his hands to capture his love of God’s creation. He was a self-taught builder who built the family home in Lupton, Arizona, and a master gardener, specializing in high desert environments.

Sidney enjoyed hiking and the outdoors, and would paint, sculpt, and photograph the beauty around him. He also appreciated music and loved singing in many church and community choirs.

Sidney leaves behind a legacy of care, compassion, professionalism, and excellence.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Leanne Gillson; son, Karl Gillson of Gallup; daughters, Geraldine Draper of Tucson, Laura McKown of Pasadena, California, and Lisa Gillson of Lupton; and 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Sidney is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Gillson; mother, Hettie Gillson; and brother, Peter Gillson.

Jackson Lee Begay

GANADO, Ariz. — Funeral services for Jackson Lee Begay, 62, of Steamboat, Arizona, will be held today, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Ganado, Arizona, with Brother Paul O’Brian officiating. Burial will follow in Steamboat.

Jackson was born Nov. 30, 1955, in Steamboat, into the Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Kinlichíi’nii (Red House People Clan). He died Sept. 21, 2018, in Sanders, Arizona.

Jackson attended Intermountain Indian School and graduated from Ganado High School. He was employed with Navajo Nation Tribal Fleet, Car Quest, Archeology Department, and Russ Hamilton Excavating Truck and Equipment Repair.

Jackson enjoyed rodeos, reading, playing cards, and crossword puzzles.

Jackson is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Begay; brothers, Larry and Clifford Begay; sisters, Helena Slinkey, Roselyn Yazzie, Rosita Begay, and Charlotte Begay; and one grandchild.

Jackson is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Helen B. Begay; and brother, Edison Begay.

Pallbearers will be Stanford Slinkey, Korwin Kinlicheenie, Clifford Begay, and Justin Livingston.

A reception will take place at the Steamboat Chapter House following services.

Irene Ella Sarracino

LUKACHUKAI, Ariz. — Funeral services for Irene Ella Sarracino, 83, of Lukachukai, Arizona, will be held today, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Isabel Catholic Church in Lukachukai, with Father Joseph officiating. Burial will follow at the Lukachukai cemetery.

Irene was born May 8, 1935, in Lukachukai, into the Ta’neeszahnii (Tangle Clan), born for Ma’ii deeshgiizhinii (Coyote Pass Clan). She died Sept. 23, 2018, in Chinle.

Irene attended the five-year program in Brigham City, Utah, and was employed as a home living aide in Lukachukai, served 36 years with the BIA, retiring from Lukachukai Boarding School.

Irene enjoyed sewing, watching TV, taking care of her livestock, attending song and dances, and powwow gourd dancing.

Irene is survived by her son, Anthony Gray; and daughter, Mildred Gray.

Irene is preceded in death by her spouse, Paul Harrison Sarracino; James Smith, Fannie Smith, and Johnny Smith.

Pallbearers will be Andre Gray and Anthony Gray.

A reception will take place at the Lukachukai Chapter House following services.

Kyle J. Platero

TO’HAJIILEE, N.M. — Funeral services for Kyle J. Platero, 30, of To’hajiilee, New Mexico, will be held Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Immanuel House of Prayer Church in To’hajiilee, with Luke McThias officiating. Burial will follow in To’hajiilee.

Kyle was born Dec. 8, 1987, in Albuquerque, into the Tábaahá (Water’s Edge Clan), born for Áshiihí (Salt People Clan). He died Sept. 23, 2018, in Albuquerque.

Kyle attended Wingate High School and enjoyed playing basketball, drawing, freestyle rhyming, helping out family, working out, and shadow boxing.

Kyle is survived by his daughter, Julissa Platero; mother, Charolette Platero; sisters, Christen Platero, Demetria Platero, and Rhonda Chapo; and grandparents, Dolores and Luke McThias.

Pallbearers will be Sven McThias, Tehoma Platero, Khiry Kelewood, Lucas Chavez, and Jasper Platero.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Chapo, Art Chapo, and Harold Mariano.

A reception will take place at the To’hajiilee Chapter House following services.

Donald “Dawn” Martinez

IYANBITO, N.M. — Funeral services for Donald “Dawn” Martinez, 48, will be held Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Gospel Light House Church in Iyanbito, New Mexico. Burial will follow at the Gallup City Cemetery.

Donald was born in Gallup, into the Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House Clan), born for Tsenabahilnii (Sleep Rock People Clan). His nali is Áshiihí (Salt People); chei is Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People). He passed away in Gallup.

Donald graduated from Gallup High School and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico-Gallup. He worked with special needs children at Gallup High School, chaired Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and was a sponsor. He enjoyed cruising with friends and was always supportive of friends and family.

Donald is survived by his sisters, Mildred Frank, Patsy Martinez, Nancy Martinez, Tanita Martinez, and Tanya Martinez; brothers, Kenneth Martinez Sr., Albert Martinez Sr., Rudy Martinez, and Frankie Martinez; niece, Aleeyah Khloe King; and many nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Begay, Jeremy Begay, Jarrett Begay, MacArthur Frank, Arthur Frank Jr., Darnell Martinez, and Patsy Martinez.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Leo Begay

STANDING ROCK, N.M. — Funeral services for Leo Begay, 77, will be held Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Bible Baptiste Shepard Church in Standing Rock, New Mexico, with Pastor Neal Forester officiating. Burial will follow at the family plot at his late mother, Elizabeth Casuase’s, residence.

Leo was a veteran who served in the Army.

A potluck reception will take place at the Standing Rock Chapter House following services.
