Nine chapters will be going to the polls on Tuesday to elect Council delegates.

In an election year where nothing has been normal, there are now conflicting opinions as to what will happen on Jan. 13 when Ben Shelly’s term as president expires.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, no date had been set as to when a special election for Navajo Nation President would be held, despite a Navajo Nation Supreme Court ruling that ordered the election to be held before Jan. 31, 2015.

At a campaign rally last Thursday in Chinle — home of not only his opponent, Joe Shirley Jr., but also the man who is trying to get his name off the ballot, Myron McLaughlin — presidential candidate Russell Begaye and his running mate Jonathan Nez managed to draw about 30 people with a message of “healing and reconciliation.”

The Navajo Supreme Court Friday issued a decision dismissing an appeal filed by Myron McLaughlin trying to have another hearing before the Navajo Nation Office of Hearings and Appeals.
