Wauneka, Goodman, Brown pace Window Rock to tourney title

Window Rock turned in its most productive games during this young season as the Scouts posted an 86-69 victory over the Valley Sanders Pirates en route to earning the tournament championship at the Fighting Scouts Events Center in Fort Defiance last Saturday.
Window Rock 6-foot-5 senior post Myron Wauneka, 5-foot-11 senior guard Shannond Goodman and 6-foot-4 junior forward Tyrese Brown all turned in a stellar performance in pacing the Scouts to the tournament title.
Wauneka and Brown, utilizing their height, dominated inside with their scoring and rebounding. Wauneka poured in 28 points and pulled down 12 boards. Brown canned 17 points and hauled down 15 rebounds in a winning effort. Goodman pumped in 25 points, including three treys.
Window Rock completed the two-day round-robin with a 4-0 record. On the first day, the Scouts defeated Rough Rock Sun Devils, 87-29, and knocked off the Round Valley Elks, 64-27. In a rematch against Round Valley on the second day, Window Rock clubbed Round Valley, 59-36.
To reach the championship game, Valley Sanders whipped Round Valley, 70-45, and defeated Rough Rock, 77-51. Valley Sanders outdistanced Rough Rock, 96-43, in a rematch between the two teams earlier in the day on Saturday.
