Shiprock harrier repeats as Náshdóítsoh Invite champion Navajo Prep boys win team title

Shiprock senior Kaden Lapahie repeated as the Náshdóítsoh Invitational champion by clocking in at 17:21.09 on Friday afternoon.

Shiprock’s Kaden Lapahie was looking to go a sub-16 at the Náshdóítsoh Invitational on Friday.
He missed that mark by 21-plus seconds, but he was pleased that he defended his individual crown. Lapahie clocked in at 17:21.09 as he bested 61 other varsity runners on a cloudy afternoon.
“I won last year’s race, and I kind of wanted to win it again,” Lapahie said. “I knew the course very well and I wanted to get a faster time from last year, knowing that I’m strong enough and fast enough to stay with the state’s top contenders.”

Lapahie enters his senior season in a year of transition as the Chieftains moved down a classification from 4A to 3A. The Shiprock harrier admits that he’s somewhat disappointed with the move, but he’s looking forward to the competition at the 3A level.
