Navajo Prep girls soccer on the rise: Lady Eagles win consolation championship at Rehoboth tournament

Navajo Prep girls soccer coach Katayan Ameri had to take a moment to reflect on what the past three seasons has been like after claiming the consolation championship at the annual Rehoboth Christian School tournament.
Ameri took over the soccer program in 2024, which was started in 2011 by then coach Stacy Irwin. In her first year, the Lady Eagles went 0-19 and last season they compiled a 2-17 record.
On Saturday, Navajo Prep matched last season’s number of wins after beating Rehoboth 1-0 for fifth place as the Eagles improved to 2-1-2 overall.
“This is my third season, and this the highest that we’ve finished since I’ve coached,” Ameri said. “I can’t even tell you my emotions right now. I couldn’t have done this without my assistant, Winter Freeman. She has been an asset to this team. She’s a big reason for our success.
“We really work well together, and this is not just a one-person win,” she added. “This is a team win all the way around with the coaches and managers included.”
