Tuba City football sets sight on challenging for region title
WINDOW ROCK
A three-game stretch in the middle of September will help Tuba City football coach Floyd Haven gauge his team.
As the Warriors’ new head coach, Haven has some high expectations for his young team. And if the stars align this year, he’s hoping his team can challenge for the 3A North Region championship.
“We want to win our conference,” he said. “Not only that, we want to develop productive student-athletes who will succeed in today’s society.”
The Warriors open the season on Friday by hosting Red Mesa.
Haven said Red Mesa is a quick, hard-hitting team so he’s expecting a challenge.
“Red Mesa has a veteran coach that will have his team ready to play,” he said. “They can play with any 3A North teams so they are going to be tough.”
As for their three-game stretch, Haven said he’s looking forward to seeing how his team competes against the likes of Phoenix Bourgade Catholic (Sept. 14), Winslow (Sept. 21) and Page (Sept. 28).
“These three games will have a big impact and detrmine where we need to be to win the region,” he said. “I do know that the Tuba City Warrior football program, coaching staff and players will be prepared and be up for the challenge.”
