Over the course of the regular season, Ganado High bull rider Nicholas Touchine traded the lead multiple times with Remington Fenn and Rylan Gist in the Arizona High School Rodeo Association season standings.
The three cowboys were separated by 1.5 points entering the AHSRA finals May 28-30 at the Linden Valley Arena in Show Low, Arizona with Gist leading Fenn and Touchine.
“It was close all year,” Touchine said. “Nobody got too far ahead and so we all had a pretty good chance of winning it.”
At the three-day state finals late last month, Touchine emerged as the state champion as he covered two of three bulls.
“It’s a dream come true,” the recent Ganado graduate said. “I’ve been wanting to be a state champion since last year. I finished fourth last year, and it made me want to try harder this year, so I worked my butt off this year, and it paid off.”
