Local high school standouts take part of Best of the Best Rodeo

It’s a high school rodeo like no other.

Crownpoint cowgirl Amy Murphy throws her lasso in the second round of the 11th Annual Pinnacle Bank Best of the Best Timed Event Rodeo on Friday morning at Red Rock Park. She finished this run in 3.41 seconds, and coupled with her 2.73 run, Murphy missed the short round by one spot with a 6.14 aggregate.
With high payouts and lucrative prizes, the 11th Annual Pinnacle Bank Best of the Best Timed Event Rodeo attracted 360 contestants from 11 states to Red Rock Park last week. The uniqueness of the rodeo piqued enough interest in cowboys like Keacey Phillips to get entered.
“I’ve always heard about it, and I wanted to see how it felt, so I entered,” said Phillips, a first-time participant.
Of the four Navajos that competed, Crownpoint cowgirl Amy Murphy was one spot away from making Saturday evening’s short round.
