Running has almost always been about teamwork for Shiprock runner Lacey Howe.

Page girls and boys teams and Chinle junior Santiago Hardy ran smart races en route to earning the Arizona Division III State Championship at Cave Creek Golf Course in northwest Phoenix last Saturday under ideal racing conditions.

Paced by three Native American athletes, Central Arizona College men’s team finished second and the women’s squad claimed third at the National Junior College Athletic Association Cross-Country Championships at Fort Dodge, Iowa last Saturday.

There were a number of times this season when doubt lingered that Niles Thomas would have another stellar season.

Hopi continues to dominate the cross-country scene in Arizona.
