Longtime Monument Valley volleyball coach Rennell Gilmore was honored on Saturday before the start of its 3A North Region matchup with archrival Tuba City.
Gilmore was one of two individuals inducted to the 2026 Monument Valley Athletics Hall of Fame class along with multisport athlete Allison Holiday, who played collegiately for the University of Nevada Las Vegas women’s basketball team for four seasons in the late 2000s.
“I’m just honored and humbled to just even being considered,” said Gilmore, who has coached at MV for 13 seasons, which includes a state crown in 2014. “I’m thankful for them giving me this opportunity and it’s just a good feeling.”
Afterward, Gilmore’s team took care of business as MV (26-9, 8-0 in 3A North play) avenged a five-set setback to Tuba (26-12, 7-1) earlier this month with a four-set win on Saturday to earn the No. 1 seed for this week’s regional tournament. The set scores were 25-16, 25-20, 15-25, 25-17.
“We set a goal from the last time we played them, and I’m glad that they were able to keep their composure and keep their momentum,” Gilmore said.
