Vice President Richelle Montoya addressed the elders on July 20 for the Elder Fest and said the event has special meaning to her, not only because it honors Navajo cheii and másáni but because she is also from the Eastern Navajo Agency. She took a photo with the White Rock Maidens, Alberta Shannah (left), and Alice George (right), before attending the Miss Eastern Navajo Pageant.

These Navajo elders attended the Eastern Navajo Fair early Thursday morning to celebrate life during the Elder Fest.

The mood was carefree and light as grandmothers and grandfathers set up their folding chairs inside a big white tent erected at the northwest perimeter of the Crownpoint fairgrounds for their benefit. The event brought together generations, bridging the past and present while fostering a sense of unity and togetherness.

The Crownpoint Division of Aging and Long-Term Care Support took the lead role in organizing the event, which was postponed for the past three years because of the pandemic.
